Great Action-Packed Fun.

by  fredrick2003,   Dec 29, 2005

Pros:  Smooth flowing graphics with a lot of detail, fun and easy to learn controls.

Cons:  Beating the game with 1 character takes little time.

The Bottom Line:  Everyone should at least give this game a try. Even if you dont like snowboarding.

SSX Tricky is the first game I played in the SSX snowboarding series, but it definately isn't the last. I did not know about the series prior to renting this game so I do not know how it compared to its predecessor.

Graphics:
The graphics were fantastic, really pushing the Gamecube to its limits. Everything in the game had a smooth flow as your were snowboarding down the courses. I've heard people say that the Gamecube version had framerate issues, but I havn't noticed any. All in all, the graphics are great. Way above what I am used it.

Story:
There is no story for this game, if is just a really fun Snowboarding game with completely unrealistic physics.

Gameplay:
You race or do tricks on a series of really large and well desgined snowboarding courses. But let me tell you this, this game has no realism in it in any shape or form. I've played other snowboarding games we're the things that the chracters we're doing in the game could actually be done in real life. That is not the case with this game. In this game, you can fly off of a 100 foot jump, do 5 spins in the air, and land without harming yourself.

There are "Race" events an "Trick" events and you can get a bronze, silver, or gold medal on each track in each mode. When you get a better medal, you can upgrade your riders attributes, suck as stability, speed, and tricks. This added a slight RPG element to the game that I really enjoyed. I even maxed out all my characters, because the gameplay was so fun I just coudln't get enough. Thats gotta say something for replay value.

Sound:
The songs are a little catchy and a little annoying at the same time. They are all game songs and there isn't a licensed soundtrack or anything. The guy giving the commentary is rediculous like you sometimes see in games like this. As you ride down the mountain, you can hear the snow flying beneath the board, you can hear people falling down, and its like every little sound is heard.
