Uniden - Reliable
Pros
Good clarity, easy to use (even without a manual!).
Cons
Only one hand unit comes with it.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
For a small office, this is an affordable phone with clarity and is easy to use.
We have used the Uniden EXI2926 for over a year at the pediatric clinic I work at.
Installation
Very easy. You need to place the battery in the base unit and charge on the cradle at least 12 hours. There are two phone line places and the power source plug in. Plug in the wall, plug the phone cord in wall and the base unit, put the hand unit in the cradle to charge and you are ready!
The Base Unit
The base unit has three light gray buttons under the speakerphone area. One for each line and a conference button. There is a mute and hold button under those in black. Then a row of 4 black buttons - memory, intercom (which also pages the hand unit), redial and flash. Under that is a normal keypad with black buttons and light gray numberings. The microphone is located on the bottom of the base unit and on the underside. There is a "mic" with an arrow pointing to where it is. The hand unit charging base is to the left of the buttons. The hand unit easily fits in the cradle face up or down. There is an antennae on one side. It is headset compatible although we don't us this feature.
On the cradle is a reminder to clean the battery contacts once a month. This is in black engraved letters, so it is not conspicuous.
On either the base or the hand unit, you can choose your line and dial the number, or dial the number and then choose the line. It will dial (even where we have to dial a 9 first) correctly either way.
Two line capability
The phone works with two lines. To hook up two lines, both phone lines must be plugged into the base unit, unless (like in our case), the both lines are already programmed to go to a specific phone.
Hand Unit
The hand unit is black with light gray lettering/numbering as well. The hand unit is the only place for caller id and call waiting (we do not have either connected connected, instead the call goes to the answering system) to show up. The window is on located above the numbers and is clear and easy to read. The display window will also display numbers you dial.
The display window will display the number, length of time on the call, and which line you are using. The window is a light greenish color and the writing is a dark blue color which shows up well. It lights up as well to see easily at night.
There is a belt clip on the hand unit.
It is a nice size for most people. It is just over 8" long including the antennae, and just over 2" across. The antennae does not retract and is sturdy, but flexible.
There is a slide off door on the back for the nickel-cadmium rechargeable battery. The door is easy to remove, but does not fall off. We generally keep the phone on the base unit, so it is difficult to estimate battery life. We have left it off over the course of a day, but we are not on the phone for extended periods of time. We have not had to replace the battery in over a year of use.
When the intercom button is pressed on the hand unit, the base is paged.
Memory
The phone has a memory that is capable of storing up to 40 numbers. There are up and down scrolls for easy access to the numbers.
Quality?
Our clinic has around 8,000 square feet of space. The base unit is not centered in the clinic. There are 4 quadrants and this is in the second. We have not had any trouble with interference or static with this. We use computers, fax machine, copier, and sometimes a radio. No problems. There is a retail business above us, and a hair salon next to us. We have not experienced interference with other businesses. We are able to go outside with the phone for short distances. The front of our clinic is glass, so that may help the reception. We cannot go around the brick side of the building and keep good reception.
The only problem we have had, is occasionally, we can hear the dialing from a second phone on this phone. Our second line is the Uniden EXP 371. We do not hear conversations, just the dialing. I think this is more of a phone line problem than the actual phone. We get both lines into the Uniden EXI2926 and only the second line into the second phone.
Overall
This has served our clinic well. It is easy to manage. We can page it when someone moves it from the desk. The clarity is good. I do wish it came with a second hand set. We had to purchase and another phone for the second line and unfortunately it only has a one line capability.
