Gossip, Gossip! Come and get your Gossip!

Pros Celebrity gossip and photos, the latest on movies, books, television as well as some "real" articles
Cons too much gossip and fluff for many people
Recommended it? Yes
People Magazine has some of the 'best' Hollywood gossip around. It is seemingly respectable enough that those who won't "lower" themselves to actually buy publications such as National Enquirer will purchase People.

People does seem to be a step above other tabloid magazines. At least they seem to really dig to only print the truth, which is more than can be said for a few other publications. =) I will admit that I'm just as guilty as the next person in reading People as well as some other tabloid publications, with less class. However, People has to be my favorite, or rather the only one I'll read today.

While I don't buy People on a regular basis and in fact, haven't purchased a copy of it in a year or so. I did recently get 4 issues for free thanks to a promotion on a web site. I have pretty much read each issue cover to cover and have found each of them to be entertaining.

Some regular features in People

Mailbag - here the readers speak out. I usually get a real kick out of reading this part. Some people say the funniest things about articles that People has published, you can tell that these letters are from real readers of the magazine and not some hired writer.

Star Tracks - here you'll see nice colorful photos of various celebrities doing every day things, or at some function. Along with the photo is an informational caption.

Scoop - read some gossip that you most likely haven't heard anywhere else.

Online - here there will be a review or two of web sites as well as a section called "Internet Manners". "Internet Manners" is pretty silly if you ask me, but I guess some people really have questions about these things.

Picks and Pans - for all the latest on television, movies, music and books. I really enjoy this section. It's very informative and gives many helpful reviews.

Insider - more celebrity gossip with photos.

Passages - another of my favorites. Can also be classified as gossip, but this is where we read about who's suing who, who's getting married, who died, who's sick, who had a baby, etc. And of course, there are a few small photos to go along with the "news".

Style Watch - the latest trends in Hollywood. Who's wearing what and how much it cost.

Puzzler - a weekly cross word puzzle

Royal Watch - all the latest on the Royal families.

Chatter - more gossip.

So, what else is there?

- There is a cover story. This is usually worth reading, as it will have photos and information that isn't usually public knowledge. Many times the cover story will have the truth to the latest rumors in Hollywood.

- Sports. There is usually some very short article on sports. Nothing to write home about, that's for sure, but I guess that's all subscribers to People want.

- Some real stories on "Jocks", "Crime", "Style", "Tragedy", "Crusaders", "Trends" and more. This is the best part of People if you ask me. It's more than senseless fluff and gossip about celebrities. Here you will find real stories that are very interesting to read and well written to boot. I, for one, appreciate and enjoy reading about real people who are tying to better the world and their community. I feel it's wonderful for them to get some recognition in a magazine as widely read as People.

Who should buy People?

As I'm sure you can see, People is more for those looking for a fluff kind of magazine that gives much gossip and information on the happenings in Hollywood. While there are some real articles, I don't see those as being enough for someone not interested in the gossip to still purchase this magazine.

I do feel that People is one of the best, if not the best, gossip and celebrity magazines available today. At least they check their stories (which is not to say they get it right 100%), and do their best to print only the facts.
